The Big Birthday Appeal has teamed up for the first time with The Friendship Circle and will be funding a brand new Art Club for local Jewish children with physical and learning disabilities.

The Friendship Circle is a Manchester-based charity which organises social events and stimulating activities for Jewish adults and children with a range of physical and learning disabilities.

Its new Art Club will be wholly sponsored by The Big Birthday Appeal, also based in Manchester, which has donated £3000 to fund the project.

The club will cater for children aged between five and 16. Classes will start mid-January and will take place every Sunday afternoon in Salford.

The children will enjoy activities including painting, drawing, decorating and clay modelling.  The Friendship Circle volunteers, 95% of whom are teenagers, will also be helping out each week. They’ll create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for the children to enjoy, while encouraging them to make friends and integrate within their community – the underlying aim of The Friendship Circle.

Natalie Goldsmith, The Friendship Circle’s Fundraising & Marketing Manager, said: “We’re looking forward to getting the Art Club up and running and offering something for our younger users to enjoy.  Both The Friendship Circle and Big Birthday Appeal charities have very similar beliefs and values and we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to join forces with such a fantastic charity.

Suzy Glaskie, co-founder of The Big Birthday Appeal, added: “The Friendship Circle’s new Art Club will be a wonderful environment for children to get creative and we’re very excited to be sponsoring it.  Big Birthday’s ethos has always been about inspiring children to help other children and this fits in perfectly with The Friendship Circle’s activities.”
