50 guests – aged from 3 to over 100 – enjoyed a Big Birthday Tea Party, hosted by Julie and Damian Besbrode at their home in Hale, which raised £487 to fund respite care for local Jewish children with special needs.

Friends and family – who included Julie’s 101-year-old grandmother Fay Benster – whiled away the afternoon in the warm sunshine whilst raising money for The Fed’s Project Smile. Many had brought along an array of goodies, including cupcakes, scones, meringues and chocolate chip cookies. All leftovers were sold to employees at Julie and Damian’s company, fresh, to raise funds for Francis House Hospice.

The event was part of the Big Birthday Tea Party, where people are invited to hold a tea party and ask guests to bring a donation to Big Birthday instead of a gift.

Julie said: “Hosting a tea party was such a lovely way to support the Big Birthday Appeal. It was wonderful to gather friends and family at our home to raise money for such a great cause. We’re already looking forward to doing it again next year!”
