The Big Birthday Appeal held a hair and make-up masterclass for teenagers and their mums which raised £400 for local Jewish children with special needs. The event, held at the home of Big Birthday co-founder Judith Moryoussef, attracted 25 teenage girls and many mums from across Manchester who came to see practical demonstrations and glean expert tips.

Make-up artist Suzanne Showman demonstrated natural-looking make-up for teens, while hair stylist Nikki Gildea created a series of elaborate but modern “up-dos” on the girls. Guests also enjoyed gorgeous cakes donated by Cassie Horwich of Cassie’s Cakes and Bakes.

Alex Brown, 13, and Maddy Moryoussef, 12, and pupils at King David High School, gave a short address explaining how Big Birthday had taught them the importance of helping the many children living in our own community who have special needs.

Judith Moryoussef said: “Teenage girls going to Bar and Bat Mitzvahs often experiment with make-up and we wanted to show them first-hand how to apply light, natural make-up. Plus, all the girls have gone home with stunning hair-dos! We’re delighted that we had such a wonderful turn-out from across Manchester and that the event raised so much money for charity.”

All monies raised go to The Fed’s Project Smile to fund respite care for local Jewish children with special needs.
