The Big Birthday Appeal is holding a kids’ swimathon on Sunday, 15 July, from 11am until 1pm.  The event will be held at the newly refurbished leisure centre at the Manchester Airport Marriott Hotel in Hale. Children will be encouraged to raise money through sponsorship, with all donations going to The Fed’s Project Smile to fund respite care for local Jewish children with special needs.

Judith Moryoussef, co-founder of the Big Birthday Appeal, commented: “It’s easy to forget that there are many children right here in our community who need round-the-clock care. The swimathon is a fantastic way for kids to get active, have some fun in a lovely pool – and do their bit to raise money to provide much-needed respite care.”

All participating children must be able to swim a minimum of 50m unaided and must register beforehand. Refreshments will be provided for children and parents, and each child will receive a goody bag and certificate.

Project Smile provides respite care for Jewish children with special needs and their parents, who often care for them around the clock. Family support workers help and encourage children to participate in leisure, educational and daily living activities. At the same time, this enables parents, carers and other family members to have a period of respite from their caring role.
