A pre-Shavuot event held by the Big Birthday Appeal has raised over £1300 for The Fed’s Project Smile to provide respite care for children with special needs. Over 60 women attended the event, which was held at the home of Michelle and Richard Deacon in Prestwich.

Event florist Mirelle Craimer demonstrated simple ways to create stunning floral displays in the home, whilst the team from Kosher Delights shared secrets of show stopping desserts.  Guests sampled a beautiful range of cheesecakes, with many taking home one of the fabulous raffle prizes. They also snapped up Big Birthday’s groundbreaking range of products which has now been extended to include two gorgeous new designs of stickers which are stuck on a present in place of a card.

The opener was Tanya Levine who said: “Big Birthday is a remarkable charity that  is all about the children. I’ve been very touched by the effects of the holiday that Big Birthday funded for children with special needs who need round-the-clock care.  In some cases, this was the only holiday a child had been on in their entire life.  It’s important to remember that the holiday also provides vital respite for parents.   I find it particularly moving to know that it allowed some parents to have the first unbroken night’s sleep in many years.”

12-year-old Danny Deacon gave his own personal experience of the project.  He explained how he travelled to Wales with close friends to visit the holiday that had been funded by Big Birthday for children with special needs.  He said: “I’ll never forget visiting the children and seeing for myself the excitement on their faces and what a huge adventure it was for them to go snow tubing, bowling and to the zoo. It was particularly special for us to be there as we had all helped to raise the £15,000 to fund the holiday.”
